Hi,
As some of you have seen we have communicated on www.sonyericsson.com that the Gingerbread software update for Xperia X10 is available. Unfortunately that information was a bit too premature. The launch is imminent and timing according to plan but we just need some more days before we can push the button. Please stay tuned here on the product blog where we will notify you as soon as the first software kits start to roll out.

Also, please note that there is a lot of false commenting and posts impersonating Rikard Skogberg. Please respect the guidelines so that we can continue to have an open spirit and direct dialogue on this forum.

Any new information regarding Sony Ericsson software updates will always be communicated as a blog post, not in the comments field.

We will shortly introduce to you the two new bloggers that will carry Rikard’s torch during his absence.

Best Regards

Mattias Holm
Head of Product PR

More Demos of the X10 Update

Some of the things you expressed wishes to learn more about are any improvements to Timescape, Social Phonebook etc.
Yesterday I recorded another video showing you a bit of what to expect.
What I show is basically a small but important update to Timescape, the experience from our implementation of the Social Phonebook and also the improved in-call user interface.

As usual this video is recorded with another updated X10 so it will also give you an idea on what to expect on HD quality and continuous auto focus. Unfortunately for this one I was out of the office so I was in a bit too dark environement to get a perfect video, therefore you’ll see the exposure metering and the auto focus struggling a bit more than usual but I still think think it does a good job.
NOTE – because of the blurring of contact details to my friends this one has been edited – however I hope that shouldn’t have a big impact on quality.

As usual, any follow-up questions – just let me know in the comments section!

Thanks for your patience concerning more information about software upgrades.
UXP (UX platform) is the strategic framework for the core of Sony Ericsson’s portfolio. The Xperia™ X10 family of phones (Xperia™ X10, Xperia™ X10 mini and Xperia™ X10 mini pro) are the first products to deliver this unique user interface layer to the market. UXP builds on top of the Android OS and brings together a rich graphical user interface, unrivalled service plug-ins and content from external partners to deliver unique consumer propositions such as Sony Ericsson’s signature applications Mediascape and Timescape™. Through UXP consumers get the best of two worlds, leveraging Sony Ericsson heritage as a leader in communication entertainment and the benefits that the generic Android OS delivers. With UXP Sony Ericsson gives consumers additional value in comparison to generic Android handsets. Sony Ericsson’s strategy is to continue to enrich the UXP layer through software updates.

Some examples of user benefits that will be included in the UXP upgrade for Xperia™ X10 in Q4 2010 are:
- Upgrade to Android OS version 2.1
- HD video recording as per the same execution as Sony Ericsson Vivaz™
- Wireless home connectivity via DLNA
- Improvements to signature applications Timescape™ and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer

The upgrade will be made available to consumers through the update service at www.sonyericsson.com

I do appreciate that the timing for the upgrade above might not meet some of your expectations and that you will have further detailed questions. I will take them onboard reading your comments and address questions as soon as it is possible for me to share further details.

I would also like to emphasise that there will be an additional smaller software update, already in the next couple of weeks aiming to enhance the usability and performance of Xperia™ X10. In the next post, I will share more details and precise timings for when this update will be released.

We can also confirm that the Xperia™ X10 mini and Xperia™ X10 mini pro will be upgraded to Android version 2.1, during Q4 2010.

More details with regards to the specific components of the UXP upgrade will be shared over time through official Sony Ericsson channels including this blog.

Kind regards,
Sumit

When we work together with operators we often together add or tweak functionality specific to that operator, its partners or a specific consumer target group. In the XPERIA X10 we have in some markets made special integrations of this kind into Timescape and Mediascape. In the example that Gustaf describes in the video below you see a cooperation made with the operator Telia in Sweden. The service integrated is the Spotify music streaming service (www.spotify.com) which is a great success here in Sweden. The integration makes Spotify appear as an online music service in Mediascape and songs played through Spotify shows up as event tiles in Timescape. There are of course other things made on other markets so this is just one example.

If the sky was the limit – what would you ideally have integrated?
