Hi Everyone,

It is time to tell you all something about one of our interesting co-operations we have with other cool companies. Oh by the way, I realize I should perhaps introduce myself as this is my first appearance on this blog. My name is Fredrik Månsson and I am part of the global marketing team in Sony Ericsson. That means I am a colleague to Rikard, Timo, Daniel and Sumit who are already frequent bloggers here. I have been with the company since the very beginning in 2001 and I am still very much enjoying the interesting ride. Since a couple of years back, I am living together with my girlfriend and cat in Malmö and I am very much into tennis and blogging.

As some of you may know, this weekend it is time for the Eurovision song contest in Oslo. This is one of the biggest TV-shows in Europe with about 125 million viewers every year. This time there will be a unique chance to get up close and personal with some of the artists who will each do individual live broadcasts from the event. Their clips will be shot with Sony Ericsson Vivaz phones and broadcasted via Bambuser live streaming.

Bambuser is a service that gives the user the opportunity to stream live video from a mobile phone or web-cam to friends and followers all over the world. For the Eurovision song contest, Bambuser has partnered with the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK to provide live broadcasts before, during and after the event. We are proud to say that Bambuser has chosen Vivaz for this event as they believe this is THE phone to use to get best possible quality broadcasts.

A lot of clips are already available at http://www.nrk.no/eurovision/ and more will for sure come during this sparkling weekend.

The Bambuser application is available as a free download on playnow.com and on Android market.

Enjoy and have a good weekend!
Fredrik

Vivaz pro is shipping!

I’m happy to say that we have now started to ship out Vivaz pro to selected markets around the world. There might be slight differences in when it will be available for your market, so I advice you to check with your local operators and retailers for more detailed information.

Vivaz has been shipped in large volumes already. Some of the top reasons from consumers why they desire the phone is the superior HD video recording as well as the unique Human Curvature design. It feels very pleasant to be able to extend the Vivaz family with Vivaz pro with a full slide-out qwerty keyboard. I use the Vivaz pro as my main phone primarily for the convenience when it comes to messaging (my sms, email, facebook etc), yet, being a Cyber-shot fan, I could never compromise on the camera.

Final note, just want to highlight that both Vivaz and Vivaz pro are confirmed to support up to 32GB micro SD memory cards. This is a big reassurance if you are a heavy user of music, games, apps and video recording. Why not take the opportunity to check if your local retailer is up to date with this information :-)

The next major software release for X2 is now available.  Again, timing on the update is different for certain markets but several of the software versions are available now and I expect the rest to be ready by the end of the week. The update will be distributed through the Update Service client found at www.sonyericsson.com/update.

MR2 software shows more performance and stability improvements throughout the X2.  This release contains WM6.5.3 (Maldives) with much improved finger friendliness, a consistent touchable UI, more improvements to core Sony Ericsson and Microsoft applications and enhanced speed/performance throughout the device.

Here’s a list of highlights:

- Usability improvements throughout including vastly improved finger and touch responsiveness

- Further overall refinement to the browser (IE6), boot-up time, software text input (XT9), and the dialer

- Consistent user experience with cool new themes and the upgrade to WM 6.5.3

- Stability improvements in all core applications and interactions

I appreciate all of the comments you have left here on the blog.  We incorporated as many of the ideas and fixes into this release and hope you upgrade soon.

Thank you, Aaron

XPERIA X10 mini – Unboxing

Again to follow up on a nice tradition on this blog we know have made a very short (and a bit shaky, sorry for that) unboxing video of the first commercial samples that we’ve got here to our office. As some of you noticed from the earlier videos this is a sign that the product is close to hitting the stores now.

As shown in the video there are differences in box content between markets and operator configurations.
What you see Gustaf picking out of the box should probably be in for all markets though (phone, USB-cable, charger, stereo headset, documentation).

The optional extras shown in the videos are included in some kits around the world though (e.g. we in the Nordics bundle the remote control headset MH810 and in some parts of the world they even bundle the powered stereo speaker MS450).

The box itself will also be different depending on how much accessories that is in it. The normal box will be smaller than then one in the video and look similar to the box for XPERIA X10. The reason we got the bigger box for our samples was that we got samples of all of the different color back covers included. The box shown in the video will probably only be needed for the the kits including the speakers.

When it comes to the colors of the back covers the phone will always come with black cover or white cover as default. On top of that the extra colors can be bundled in some markets. As an example here in the Nordics we have different combination chosen by different operators so make sure to check with your retailer or operator which cover is included in the one you’re about to purchase!

As usual this video is shot with the Sony Ericsson Vivaz phone in 720p HD so make sure to click show on YouTube and choose 720p to see it in full quality (even if it did struggle a bit with my unusually shaky hands from time to time in this shoot, I guess I just got excited from finally getting those commercial samples in :-) )
