As promised, the first full software update for the Xperia X2 (in older posts on the Xperiancer blog I’ve called this MR1) is now available. Timing on the update is different for certain markets but many of the software versions are available now and I expect the rest to be available by the end of the week. The update will be distributed through the Update Service client found at www.sonyericsson.com/update.
This new software is a healthy step forward – not only does it bring performance and stability improvements throughout the device but it also introduces several new features as well.
Here’s a list of highlights:
- MR1 is built on a new core platform release from Microsoft including a newer version of IE6
- Stability improvements are everywhere with focus on SlideView, Panel manager and TileWave
- Performance improvements focused on rotation and touch performance, the camera, web browsing, the software keyboard and audio streaming
- New features are added like FM radio, Video calling, Auto-lock and Fast GPS which allows for a faster first fix to the GPS signal
- SlideView 2.0 gives better usability throughout with a fresh design; and new actions are build in like new/reply/delete/edit capabilities in messaging and calendar. Music scrolling/searching and the mini-player have also been enhanced
- The new dialer took a big step forward with four easy buttons giving easy access to the dial-pad, favorites, call activity and contacts. We increased the target hit area in contacts for finger friendliness and added user friendly redial functionality
- Based on feedback from you, we really worked hard on the software keyboard (XT9) by improving speed and touch responsiveness

UPDATE: Please disregard the posts from “Aaron” formerly found on this blog and picked up in other forums stating Sony Ericsson is abandoning the X2 – this is simply untrue. The MR2 software release is still on track for May and will bring increased performance and usability to your X2. It’s too bad that “Aaron” created that buzz out there but this Aaron is still here and listening to you.

Nice update, good speed improvements, however the most annoying bug is the LED notifications not continuing when the phone is asleep, surely this is an easy fix, after all it worked on the X1. please can you fix this? Also the hardware keyboard now has a huge amount of lag which wasn’t present before.
Love the FM radio, and the new Slideview though

Good update, nice slideview, good gps position fix but after update the latest firmware, SPB mobile shell 3.5 not working anymore(original SPB mobile shell 3.0 working). Some software work before the latest update now not working anymore. Rotation feature is disable, two nice games from sony ericsson had been removed, hardware keyboard slow respond. Hope the next update will enable the rotation without opening the keyboard..

Why do I read the list in my head is spinning just one word – tinkering. Thus saving on the unit this price, it must be a cheapskate. If you have the option to buy the cheapest, then buy the cheapest. The fact that the buyer does not understand, does not see. 3.5 mm plug – the difference in the value of a quarter of a cent. They are set up is the cheapest. Quality does not matter. Mike – the cheapest, the difference in a couple of cents. Same story with the speaker. Not enough volume to him because he is in life, if you inflate the volume, it will just fail. This is a savings in paper clip.
Even put the memory card Class 2 for 16 GB. What does this mean, you ask? And what if the media file, the same “genius” Mediascape scandalously slow starts that when recording video, the card simply can not cope with the flow of data and the vehicle slows down again. Not fatally. But unpleasant. In the flagship, which will be expected to work as a clock, an unpleasant double. Since it is not working like clockwork. Not too lazy to go through the list and count how many were able to save on the X10 in the SE – for the manufacturer savings on all components in a large (no kidding, a very large value for the device) – 22.6 dollars. But this device is not consciously done better. The same situation with a complete set and other modern vehicles of the company. The savings went to staples. Perhaps that’s the way? Do not know. In my opinion, on some things, even in these hard times can not save. Customers, they can not forgive. The next time you select a phone from another company.
