When we work together with operators we often together add or tweak functionality specific to that operator, its partners or a specific consumer target group. In the XPERIA X10 we have in some markets made special integrations of this kind into Timescape and Mediascape. In the example that Gustaf describes in the video below you see a cooperation made with the operator Telia in Sweden. The service integrated is the Spotify music streaming service (www.spotify.com) which is a great success here in Sweden. The integration makes Spotify appear as an online music service in Mediascape and songs played through Spotify shows up as event tiles in Timescape. There are of course other things made on other markets so this is just one example.
If the sky was the limit – what would you ideally have integrated?
My friend Albin has made another cool tutorial video – This time he shows how the main desktop works in the upcoming XPERIA mini products. This is shown in XPERIA X10 mini but looks the same also in XPERIA X10 mini pro.
The focus of the 4-corner user experience is simplicity and ease-of-use. To put a highly capable operating system like Android in such a compact phone with limited screen size really is something special and needs smart solutions to make it easy and fun to use. In my view the 4-corner solution solves it very nicely. The 4-corner user experience is also highly customizable for the end-user, any application can be put in any of the corners.
Also as you’ll see the normal application tray is splitted into a number of menu panes that are scrolled sideways and icons are sorted manually so that you can put the most frequently used on the first panes or e.g. have different panes for different categories of applications.
When it comes to widgets it uses a setup where the different desktops scroll sideways and each desktop page has room for one widget.
In general the mini products really feel fun to use and the message we gave at MWC in Barcelona of “Making people smile” really holds true here, everyone I’ve met that have gotten an X10 mini in their hands have all started off with a smile
This video doesn’t include extreme skiing stunts or rock concert performances, but it still has a quite spectacular twist – it’s recorded with the very same phone we are talking about: the Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro. Vivaz pro shares the same multimedia and entertainment elements as its sister Vivaz (except the difference in megapixels), and with the full slide-out qwerty keyboard it’s ideal for the many aspects of messaging highlighted in the video clip.
So, should you go for a pure touch phone or one with a full slide-out qwerty keyboard? Well, I guess the choice is up to you and it is a matter of taste. I use Vivaz pro as my personal phone mainly because I feel that a physical keyboard is superior for handling my work and private emails and I’ve been addicted to having decent camera functionality ever since the first Cyber-shot phone. I’m a frequent user of Facebook but I’m more of a follower on Twitter than a contributor. When it comes to blogging, besides being active in the discussions with you on this blog, I mostly have blogs in time periods, usually for certain projects or travels.
We believe that there are as many types of ”messaging lifestyles” as there are users.
BTW, did you know that you can use the headset as a microphone when you are recording video on Vivaz and Vivaz pro? As I needed a slightly longer cable for this video sequence, I got a €14,90 clip-on mic from a discount electronic store. As you can hear in the video it does a great job given that I’m sitting in the middle of the open landscape at the Sony Ericsson office.

Earlier this week I was contacted by Marcus and Albin, two Sonyericsson colleagues working in Lund, Sweden, who have had the good fortune of using the XPERIA X10 for a couple of months. As a summary of some of their experiences they wanted to do a video clip showing how the X10 can be used in daily life.
In the video clip Marcus shows how he uses Timescape as the home screen of the phone and has all social media feeds, texts, music and photos easily accessible at the tip of a finger. Marcus also shows how he is using PlayNow for buying music, Market for downloading apps and games and TrackID for finding out what songs are playing at a café or in a store. The integration with YouTube is also shown from different perspectives.
I’m sure many of you who already have bought X10 or have followed this blog might have seen parts of this before but there are also newcomers here and I really think this shows a good glimpse of what to expect from XPERIA X10 and highlights some of its features in a very good way!
Please share among the comments if you have other good examples showing the experience of XPERIA X10!
Now when XPERIA X10 is launched here in the Nordics we also have kicked of the campaigning around it. I know that my posts usually have been rather product focused but I thought I would just highlight the cool campaign material some of my fellow marketeers have been creating for this launch. I went for a morning walk in Stockholm this Tuesday and brought my X10 to try to give a feel of what the streets of Stockholm looks like now.
Also I’d like to thank you for all the feedback you give on our products, as said earlier we are here to listen and will of course make sure it’s forwarded to our development teams! Keep it coming!
Here are the pics from she streets of sunny Stockholm, all shot with XPERIA X10!
