The next software update for Satio is now just around the corner. Timing on the update is however different for different markets and operator branded versions. The first ones should start to come up this weekend and then continue over the coming week. However it might differ slightly between markets as some kits might need approval from operators and can therefore take some more time, still I would expect most versions of Satio to have the new software available in latest a few weeks from now.
The update will be available through the Update Service client found at www.sonyericsson.com/update
A software update is important from many perspectives, of course it should rectify some issues, optimize performance even further etc but for this case I’m glad to announce that it will also add and improve some features.
Here’s the list of highlights:
- Support for WVGA video recording – The already great video recording will be enhanced to fit the wide screen format and hence resolution is also slightly increased to 864 * 480 pixles. (the preset size will still be VGA, user has to change to get WVGA)
- Upload of pictures to Facebook – It will be possible to upload pictures directly from the picture menu you have on the home screen or from the Media UI.
- Youtube video uploading – It will be possible to upload videos to Youtube directly from the Media UI.
- Conversational messaging – “Conversations” will be nicely integrated in the messaging menu in order to easily find and inspire to more conversations with your friends.
- DLNA support – The new software will support DLNA media server for easy transfer of audio and still pictures. (Note that video is not supported)
- UI improvements – On top of above, several minor UI improvements have been done in order to optimize the user experience.
- The Facebook application that is now available on PlayNow for free download will be included in the sw.
So in a few days time I think that at least many of you will be able to try this new update out. Please let us know how it turns out in the comments section.

i tried to update my software and it got corrupted (no idea why).. and now it doesn’t work
I need ask if SE working on something for satio with Synbian S60˄3?
Thanks to the blog I read yesterday about hard reset on my phone Satio. To all those having problem of their satio in flash department, do hard reset by dial *#7370# and the default lock code is 0000. Don’t forget also to backup ur phone memory to memory card. The hard reset will swipe the data or reformat the phone memory. After hard resetting on my phone the flash is now back to normal. Thanks se.
My phone also did the update. Everything went fine and it told me that the update was successful and that I should re-insert the battery and reboot. After that the phone keeps on rebooting just after startup, and is stuck in some sort of a reboot loop. As soon as the “home” screen appears it would reboot again. The rebooting will continue until I remove the battery again. I am on the MTN network in South Africa.
Please help SE!!
my phone also got stuck but then i reinstalled the software and now it works properly….try reinstalling it ,take out the battery to switch it off, put back the battery and reinstall the latest software

Steven, try to do a repair with your PC suite. If that doesn’t work do the following…
I had the same problem this week – also on MTN network.
it’s working when you put the vodacom or celc sim in.
I had to debrand the phone with davici team as it was on Vodafone and somehow the update is conflicting with something on the mtn network… after debranding (costed me 10 euro) the phone was fixed but beware!! DO NOT DO THE SE UPDATE AGAIN AFTER DEBRANDING!! IT WILL DO THE SAME!! I paid my school fees of another 10 euro to reload the firmaware again… or the cheap way out is to go on to vodacom and change your number
This is my story I really hope that SE can fix the problem.. as I said – I think it’s something in the software thats trying to communicate on the MTN network that’s obviously not allowed on the MTN network and therefore rebooting the phone as it’s trying to initialize and connect with the home network (MTN).

Hi Rikard, I’ve found two bugs in the new firmware. One of them can be solved, but one is real annoying. One was because of the stupid facebook app, it caused menu icons to disappear, if you pressed the red button while it was running, I got rid of that thing.
But the other one is too annoying and makes the phone unusable for one of its features! The alarm clock sound has become very low, just too low, can’t wake any one up!
And one more thing, Satio needs kinetic scrolling for the whole UI!
Just upgraded to the new software on the Satio and I love it! Understand that people have been having a few problems but worked just fine on Orange in UK – whole system is now sooooo much faster which is awesome, the equalizer is great and the system seems more stable. Only question is why wasn’t the phone like this at launch SE?!?!
One bug that seems to remain is if the radio is playing and I take a call, the radio seems to die on me – can’t exit it, restart it or do anything without turning off and on again. Also, RDS on the radio would be useful.

Satio definitely needs more of such updates pouring over. Let us know Sony, if kinetic scrolling is being worked upon and will be implemented soon. We just didn’t buy this amazing phone for the camera…. I love this phone otherwise, just that it needs little more tweaks such as kinetic scroll, more of video codecs to support and animated wallpaper…good games. May be Android..even if at a price.
Hey folks, i’ve been trying to update my Satio for a few days now to the latest update but whenever I go to the update service it says I have the latest version, R1CA037. Is this update being released in different countries at different times? I live in the UK and wondered if we were a bit behind the US release. Cheers
After the update, my phone won’t blink green or vibrate when I get text-massages. It is for sure set up to do this. works fine when I get phone calls. Then it blinks and vibrate.
Then I wrote to Sonyericsson. They told me they needed to do some testing. But right now my other phone SE “Natie” has bin to repair for over 3 weeks. So my experience is not very good at this time. And I wont bring it in to the testing. It should just work from the start when I pay this much for a mobile-phone.
Upgrade went without hitch, but the new firmware seems far less stable than R1CA037. In the last 3 days, I’ve had about 3 crashes, where I’m presented with the pin entry screen. Also, In one case it got into the state where pressing the centre key would not show the menu, just the normal background pic with the “Options” and “Exit” controls, which did not actually work. Had to reboot phone. I feel this firmware was released without proper testing. (Oh, and please get the TRK app signed for Satio, can’t develop QT without it).
is the update ready for the UK yet? i have looked to see if the update is available and update service says i have the most up to date software available but yet i am still unable to upload photos straight to facebook
I’ve just updated but where is this link to upload pictures to facebook? When i take photos it gives me the option to upload to bebo but that’s it. Can’t change it in the settings either… Is this because of my network (Orange) or has the update not worked properly? Also my Orange Widgets have stopped working. They did before the update but now it just says “download failed” and I can’t access them
Any ideas?
