The huge 4 inch screen of XPERIA X10 of course is great for watching video. It’s both big enough to make it comfortable and has really high resolution to show all details. In the short tutorial here I show two different video services live in the X10. The first one is the SVT-play service offered on the mobile web page of Swedish public service TV - SVT. The other service shown is the included YouTube client. In that client there is an important option to really experience video in the best way, the option is to “Watch in high quality” which really makes a huge difference compared to the normal mobile service offered by YouTube.

Of course there are lots of other services out there besides these two, both local and global but at least it should give you an idea on what to expect from the screen and the video decoding and streaming capabilities. In my opinion it looks great!

As always please remember that these demos are on prototype hardware and pre-releae software so things might change until release.

The video below is unedited and shot with the Sony Ericsson Vivaz so it also gives you a feel for the 720 HD recording offered there! (remember to click “watch on Youtube and select 720p to see it in full quality)

Hmm, nice! It doesn’t really take to buffer too much but the network has it’s part in that too :) I agree it does look great! And the video recorded with Vivaz is nice, too nice.
    Great job sir. Rik.

Here’s a photo that Virgile took with the mini pro. I must say this is not a good picture. Maybe it’s because of the light but the k800i would of taken a greater photo. For sure…

Yepp, SVT Play really rocks, especially now with all the live broadcast they have from the Olympics. Have spent several nights in bed with my Satio watching our brave Swede’s compete! =)
Btw. Started the same live broadcast on SVT play both on my Satio and my iPhone 2G. The “broadcast” for iPhone was about 10 sec. after the Satio! =)

Great Tutorial. :) I so wanted to see the Native YouTube Client on X10. ( in action ). And with that option of watch videos in high quality, it makes things pretty easier with that client.
But i have a couple of questions!
Anything that is streamed is played on the default android Player, why not Mediascape?
And yeah, does X10 support plug and play with TV-Out cable. I mean the way we used to view the videos of Satio on our HDTV, with that TV-Out cable? :?:
    P.S.
If there is any chance of improvement, please forward this to the developers bout the Streaming videos ( or the ones from YouTube, i guess playing from YouTube suggestions on the Mediascape also makes it play on the default android player ) being played on Default or the stock Android Video player. I mean, it makes you feel wired of the fact that videos play in two different media players. ( For the best user experience, i guess system wide similarity would help users getting acquainted with. )

    @ 1
Till date, X10 doesn’t support Divx/Xvid by default. But there is a paid App yxFlash on Android Market that lets you view Divx/Xvid video on your android device.

    @ Rikard
Can you provide me with some details on whom to contact here in India, if i want to discuss the test pilot programs here in India. I’m so passionate about this UXP since it was announced and so want to contribute my part for the development of it.
    P.S.
If that doesn’t work, i hope to get to work for SE, as i have an Internship pending for my B.Tech, Electronic and Telecommunication. :D

This looks great, can´t wait to try all this things out soon… so when will the X10 hit retail in Sweden? (hehe, need to know soon)

I would like to know if this is streaming from the Wifi or 3G?

Also the videos should always show of the whole phone so everyone can see how great the design is :)

    Small tip…

Vivas video quality looks great, just the white balance is struggling a bit.
I also saw this in the face recognition video witch also used the Vivaz.
If possible you should set the white balance manually to avoid this (you could clearly see it changing white balance in the beginning of the video)

    Manish,
Thanks for your ideas on the integration of streaming playback with MediaScape. I don’t really know the details as to why or why not but I’ll make sure that your feedback is forwarded as usual! I’ll see what I can find in India, however I don’t know anyone there yet so it might take some time!
