Answers to some of your questions

Let me introduce myself. I am Sumit Malhotra, Global marketing manager for Xperia X10.

Sumit

I am very happy about the announcement earlier this week. Using the phone outside the office walls has been somewhat of a relief and it is encouraging to get some remarks and raised eyebrows when people see me using it. The design is eye catching and stands out from normal large screen so getting great response and anticipation, but a lot of questions as well….

One of the benefits of using an open operating system is that we can tailor your phone to your specific needs. As an example, there is not a document editor preloaded, but there are and will be free and premium applications available in the application store.

Now to your questions. I haven’t been able to answer all of them at this point but have tried my best to get to as many as possible.

* Will it have multi-touch in future updates?

Xperia X10 has a capacitive screen. It does not support multi-touch functionality at launch, but is considered for the future.

* What’s a scratch-resistant screen?

Xperia X10 has mineral glass to prevent easy scratching and fingerprint coating.

* Is it based on OpenGL 1.1 or 2.0 for games and other stuff?

Xperia X10 supports Open GL 2.0.

* What is the size of the battery?

It is 1500mAh.

* How many colors does the screen support?

I noticed the confusion in the communction around this topic, but the correct number is 65,536.

* Will the X10 receive Android 2.0 update (for those who bought from the initial batches with Android 1.6) ?

The UX platform used for Xperia X10 will evolve to Android 2.0 over time.

* What would be the camera like?

We’ll try to post a tutorial video of the camera interface within short, but in short it’s quite similar to what’s seen in our earlier touch screen phones like Satio, X2, and Aino.

* When will this be available in the UK?

X10 will be available in selected markets during Q1 next year. We will get back with more details as to more exact timing and where.

    Hi Sumit.

Rumor has it (i’m reading http://developer.sonyericsson.com/community/message/129244 from SE Developers Forum) that X10’s screen can actually display 16 million colors, but Android 1.6 can only output 16 bits of colors.

They say that this phone will use 65536 colors as long as it works with Android 1.6, but it will be able to use the full 16 million color dept as soon as it gets the Android 2.0 upgrade.

    Any confirmation to that, please?

    Thank-you in advance.

    Hi Sumit,

An event held in Taiwan today revealed that X10 is actually equipped with a “resistive” touch screen. I think that means multi-touch will not be available on X10 any more.
Many people are very disappointed when hear the fact.
A better communication between Eng and Marketing team should be established, in my opinion…

    Hi Sumit,

I’m facing some problems about the X10’s resolution…

In the specification it says that X10’s resolution is 480×854, but when I use canvas.getWidth() and canvas.getHeight() from my view it returns 480×569… do you know why?

    Thanks

Dear Mr Malhotra. Do you believe that it is worth buying this Smart Phone rather than waiting for the sequential? What I mean is, will I buy this Smart Phone and regret it when the follower is released one year after?

what is the price for x10? Because we have in Russia, share Sony Ericsson has dropped 3% and is below the level of FLY.

And commodity prices are much higher than competitors. Now the main question of how much it will cost the x10, depends on the company’s future in Russia?

I’ve been searching the whole for an answer for this question.

I’m using the SE bluetooth Watch MBW-150 with my SE P990i.
Will the MBW-150 also be compatible with X10.
    Tanks in advance!

    Hi Sumit

I hope that it’s not to late for SE for this X10 look like a killer. I was wondering why not more phones has the remote play app towards the PS3. I think it’s a unique killer app and if it’s not included why can’t you pay extra for it and download it from play now arena?

Hello. I´ve bought an Aino to my girlfriend for Christmas. A great cellphone, but the camera is really bad. Takes too long to shoot a picture. I planned to by a Satio to myself. It has a great camera, but the rest is not so good. It is really slow when you run around in the menys.

I plan to wait for the Xperia before I buy myself a new one. The question I have is; Will the processor be faster i Xperia. The iPhone who came almost 3 years ago is still faster then for example the Satio. Will Xperia fulfill my expectations?
